Tees Valley Green Jobs Summit

The Tees Valley has a major role to play in tackling the climate and nature emergencies. But do we have the skilled workforce to deliver the progress we need in the next decade?

To meet the Government’s net zero ambitions, we need to decarbonise our industry, improve the energy efficiency of our buildings, provide electric vehicle infrastructure, increase the uptake of public transport and active travel and our renewable energy generation and change the way in which we use our land.

Friends of the Earth’s analysis of local area data reveals what we need to deliver in the Tees Valley in the next decade:

• Install 2600 publicly available electric vehicle charging points - the current figure in the Tees Valley is 175.
• Generate 887GWh per year of renewable energy from solar, wave and wind. (Currently 340 GWh/yr.)
• Install over 57000 eco-heating systems (e.g., air source heat pumps) to homes and buildings.
• Retrofit over 18000 homes per year to meet high energy efficiency standards
• Plant over 2500 hectares of new woodlands.

Together with industrial developments such as green hydrogen production and the manufacture and maintenance of offshore wind turbines, this presents a huge opportunity for job creation and skills development.

We’ve got some great speakers lined up to help us but we want to ensure the voices of Tees Valley residents and workers are heard.

We’ll have lots of opportunity for you to develop and share your vision for a climate, nature-friendly and economically prosperous and fair Tees Valley.
