Six months to COP26

With six months to go until the start of COP26, the COP President Designate Alok Sharma gave a speech from Whitelee Windfarm, near Glasgow, setting out how the UK plans to achieve our four goals for COP26.

In his speech, Alok Sharma outlined the urgent action required to keep within reach the aim of limiting global temperature rises to 1.5 degrees. In order to do this we must halve global emissions by 2030, and we must therefore act now to launch a consistent and concerted effort to reduce emissions throughout the next ten years. We are pressing for action around four key goals: securing global net zero by mid century to keep 1.5 degrees in reach; adapting to protect communities and natural habitats; mobilizing finance; working together. You can read these in full here or watch the video of Alok Sharma’s speech here.
